Origin: Rural areas
of Northern France
Description:
Generally the Follett are invisible.
For those who have seen them there are two main descriptions – a tiny old
man dressed as a jester or a tiny man dressed in a red coat and britches with
long hair and beard brandishing a teeny little sword. I like that later myself. Personal preference only.
Disposition: The
Follett are not the friendliest of creatures.
Actually, they are quite nasty.
They invade homes in the French countryside throwing pots and pans and
sticks on the residents. They like to
pester spinning women and rub cattle’s skin raw (yeah, weird, but a major
concern for a farmer!) They also like to
make crude jokes.
Now if a person can resist losing their patience and
flying into a rage at this vicious little bastard, the Follett will act as a
House Faerie, completing chores and tending to the cattle.
I haven't heard of the Follett before but if they'll clean my house, I'll be very patient with them. :)
ReplyDeleteI just finished cleaning the bathroom myself. I would be very patient as well if someone would do it for me!
DeleteYour posts are so interesting. For someone who knows nothing except what Harry Potter taught me...I'm leaning so much. I'll be on the lookout for these little buggers next time in the French countryside...which I wish was today. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are enjoying the posts. I was always into the paranormal when I was a kid and then I discovered mythology. Mythology morphed into a love of folklore and faerie lore. It just sort of happened.
DeleteThe Follett are new to me. I mostly write Scottish stories with faeries and brownies or vampires. Maybe I'll try a French short story and include a Follett. Should be fun. Thanks for sharing, Buffy.
ReplyDeleteThe world is so full of wonderful faerie creatures. Not enough time to study them all. Or write about them for that matter!
DeleteWhat a great exchange, the virtue of patience, I mean. :) I love his name!
ReplyDeleteI included a little friendly fairy magic in my post today. Come by!
Can't wait to check it out!
DeleteNever heard of Follets!
ReplyDeleteLook forward to your challenge run…
